Getting Started
Research, research, and more research.  Get on the Internet and search the
web.  There are many different sites for you to get on.  A couple to get you
started are:  www.alpacanation.com, www.alpacastreet.com, and another:
www.alpacainfo.com.  Alpacanation has links to alpaca farms from all over the
United States, many of which will be near you.  Farmers love to hear from
people and are eager to share their knowledge of their alpacas with visitors.

Visiting farms in your area is one of the best ways to get an idea of what you
would like to do.  To step into a pasture and find yourself surrounded by a
dozen alpacas humming, or to hold a new born cria, or to even have a
beautiful alpaca touch his nose to yours - this and more is what you will
experience while visiting a farm.

You will discover there are small farms of ten or less alpacas and large farms
with well over one hundred alpacas.  Across the United States the average
farm has between eight and ten alpacas.  Many of these farms participate in
shows and have award winning animals on their farms.  Also, if you don't have
the property needed then you can agist your alpacas at a farm in your area for
as long as you want.

There are just over 100,000 alpacas in the United States right now.  We are
going to have to double, maybe triple that amount to be able to keep up with
the demand for fiber.  So the cost of these animals will stay very steady for
many years to come.  A larger initial investment will give you a head start in
building your herd.  Tell me, how many investments can you count on to
reproduce themselves every year?  Call a local farm and plan a visit today.
There is no better time than now to begin your adventure into starting your
own alpaca business.

We welcome your calls and inquires, and we would love the opportunity to
show you around our farm and our alpacas.
